The newly-wed couple Virat Kohli, India cricket captain, and Anushka Sharma, Bollywood actress, hosted their second reception ceremony at a venue in Lower Parel, Mumbai on Tuesday. The event is specially organised for the friends, teammates and colleagues of the star couple.
The duo had earlier celebrated their union with a grand ceremony, first of the planned two reception parties, at the Taj Diplomatic Enclave in Delhi last Thursday. The Delhi reception was graced by none other than the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
And the party got bigger with Anushka’s Bollywood friends and Virat’s teammates along with various sporting legends attending it.
The couple looked beautiful. While Anushka seen in side slick hair with cascading curls and nude lips to go with the elegant vibe of her ensemble and wearing a Sabyasachi creation – a dull gold heavily embroidered and embellished lehenga set teamed with a matching dupatta, cinched at the waist with a signature Sabyasachi belt. She completed the heavy dress with simple earing studs, a diamond neck-piece and traditional Punjabi red bangles set.
Hubby Virat wore a navy velvet bandhgala which he paired with a pair of white pants and brown shoes.
Virat’s family was among the first few to arrive followed by a number of Virat’s teammates and celebs from the Bollywood film fraternity.
From the cricketing field, Sanddep Patil, Jasprit Bumrah, Manish Pandey, Ravindra Jadeja, Jaidev Unadkat, Wriddhiman Saha, Umesha Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin, Cheteshwar Pujara, Sunil Gavaskar, Anil Kumble, Harsha Bhogle, Sanay Manjrelar, Mohammed Shikhar Dhawana, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Sharma attended their Indian skipper wedding reception.
From Bollywood, several big wigs including Amitabh Bachchan, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Ranbir Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan, Ayan Mukherji, Karan Johar, Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, Katrina Kaif, Ali Abbas Zafar, Bhumi Pednekar, Madhuri Dixit, Rekha, Kangana Ranaut, Rajkumar Hirani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Abhijat Joshi, Anupama Chopra, Anand L Rai, A. Legendary Sachin Tendulkar attended reception with wife Anjali and daughter Sara while MS Dhoni also graced the occasion with wife Sakshi and daughter Ziva.
Indian cricket team opener Rohit Sharma made entry at reception with wife Ritika Sajdeh and newly wedded couple Zaheer Khan and Sagarika Ghatge and Indian Football Team captain Sunil Chhetri with wife Sonam Bhatacharya added glamour to the occasion along with Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal.
Right from their environment-friendly invites with saplings to the anthology of Rumi’s poems as return gifts, the couple seems to have invested great thought in all the functions. They made sure that all the events reflected the spirit of their companionship and their personalities.
Shah Rukh Khan burned the dance floor along with Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli on ‘Chaiyaa Chaiyaa’ and several other Punjabi songs.
Virat married Anushka on December 11 in Italy. The news of their marriage had taken most of the cricketing world by surprise. It was a close-knit ceremony attended by close family and friends only.
Virat had been on a sabbatical after the third Test against Sri Lanka. He had missed the ODI series as well as the T20Is.
The couple had been dating on and off for a long time and were known to keep their private life a secret affair. Virat will return to the Indian squad before the team leaves for the series against South Africa starting on After wrapping the wedding festivities, Anushka and Virat will fly off to South Africa, where Virat will stay on for an upcoming series.
Anushka is scheduled to touch base in Mumbai after New Year celebrations, where she will resume her pending work commitments – a film with Aanand L. Rai, YRF’s “Sui Dhaaga” and the promotions of “Pari”. January 5, 2018.
