Mr. and Mrs. Dutt, Memories of Our Parents

Let’s see who all were hitting the headlines last week in Bollywood and who’re going to come up with the new faces in their upcoming roles. There’s a lot of hype happening around Apoorva Lakhia’s latest movie “Mission Istanbul”, an espionage thriller produced by none other than Suneil Shetty. Sources have confirmed that Suneil has already paid Rs.10.25 million to Apoorva Lakhia. And guess; who are the actors playing the leading roles. Suneil dropped a bombshell when he revealed that Abhishek Bachchan and Vivek Oberoi will share the screen space together in his move. To the raised eyebrows, Suneil aptly replied that there is no significance for personal issues in one’s profession. He is right; and both the actors also consented for their roles together. What’s the problem for us viewers?

Now comes the ever-favorite Bollywood joddy Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in a new movie. The movie offers more for Mr.Khan; the name of the movie is tentatively announced as ‘My Name is Khan’. The movie highlights the plight of Asian Muslim post 9/11, and SRK is playing the leading role as a Muslim who was detained at the flight because his surname is ‘Khan’. Kajol will play the lady against Khan.

It seems that Bollywood is preparing to scribe its history in the hearts of Indians with more and more biographies. The previous week we witnessed the launch of the autobiography of Devsaab, ‘Romancing with Life’. Another autography has hit the headlines this week. It is the book written by Sanjay Dutt and his sisters, Priya and Namrata, and the name of the book is ‘Mr. and Mrs. Dutt, Memories of Our Parents’. The book throws light into the personal life and the filmy career of their parents, the late Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt. While the book was released in Mumbai by Dilip Kumar, the show witnessed a large crowd assembled to meet the celebrities including Big B and SRK. The media attention turned to the big duo who apparently did not communicate each other much at the venue.

Dev Anand’s autobiography exposes his past life especially that was closely associated with the Bollywood. In this book he also revealed about his failed attempts in capturing the souls of the then heroines including the gorgeous Zeenath Aman. There is a lot of interesting stuff added in the book giving a scope for another entertainment saga in the Bollywood.

Come controversies, come! Yet another movie was caught up by the communal controversy. Now it is the turn of ‘Bhool Bhulaiya’ starring Akshay Kumar that entered the court for its title song ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’. The Mumbai-based advocate S Kunjuraman has filed a petition in Mumbai Session Court saying that the title song hurts the sentiments of the Hindu and Buddhist community as it contains the dance by half-clad girls. If the sources are to be believed, the song has already gained an unexpected popularity. Kunjuraman’s petition had requested that the song must be deleted from the movie.

Bhool Bhulaiya is the remake of the Malayalam movie ‘Manichitrathazhu’, in which Shobhana had grabbed the national award for the best actress. The story of the movie focuses an ancestral house situated in one remote village in India where a series of supernatural incidents happens. These incidents contribute to the theme of the movie. Vidya Balan is acting as the leading lady who is affected by the unnatural circumstances. Directed by Priyadarshan, Bhool Bhulaiya offers a lot of scope for a complete entertainment, including mind-boggling incidents and rib-tickling comedies. Akshay Kumar is playing the leading male role as the psychiatrist while Shiny Ahuja is playing the role of Siddarth, Vidya’s husband. Amisha Patel is also playing a significant role in the movie.

If the above petition helped ‘Bhool Bhulaiya’, another legal issue that caught the attention of the entire India was the selection of Amitabh Bachchan-starred ‘Ekalavya- the Royal Guard’ for Oscar entry. A division bench of Bombay High Court comprising Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice Dhananjay Chandrachud while addressing the petition challenging the selection of the movie said that there is a prima facie merit in the argument about the selection process carried out on the movie. The bench then asked the Film Federation of India that made the selection of the movie to reply within 10 days. The next hearing on this will be on October 10. The petition was filed by Bhavana Talwar, the director of the movie ‘Dharm,’ According to the petitioner, the selection of the movie is biased because the selection committee comprised the close accomplice of the director of ‘Ekalavya’ Vidu Vinod Chopra.

If the ‘Chake De India’ has motivated the Indian women hockey players a bit, it has filled confidence in the on-screen hockey players to take up more assignments. Look what the leading actresses in the movie are planning post- ‘Chake De India’. After performing the leading role as Preeti in the movie, Sagarika Ghatke is going to sign for a movie, and she has already got a brand endorsement offer from Reebok for its latest women’s lifestyle line. Another star, Vidya Malvade who played as Vidya in the movie, has already signed up two movies, ‘Junction’ and ‘Kidnap’. Besides these, she has signed up for the endorsements of World Gym, a new brand that is going to start a chain of gyms in India. She also got an offer from the famous Kolkata-based designer Abhishek Dutta, and she will be cat-walking the ramp for the upcoming Lakme Fashion Week. Shilpa Shukla who played Bindya is also acting in the movie ‘Junction’, and both the ladies, Vidya and Shilpa, will be ready for the shooting next month. Anaitha Nair, who played as Aliya in the movie, on the other hand, has got a surprise for her next movie in which she will play against John Abraham in Nagesh Kukunoor’s ‘Aashayein’. She has been given the role of a cancer patient. She also got the ad offer from Fruiti. Come on ladies, it is time for you to make use of the windfall. What a Chake De Effect!
