The Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC) invites two veteran historians from Jaipur to sought the opinion on Padmavati by viewing the film.
These historians to review the film include Professor B.L. Gupta who is a professor of history in Rajasthan Vishwavidhyala and has written numerous books on India during the medieval period. while another historian is and Prof R.S. Khangarot who is principal of Agrawal College.
Historian Gupta said he is all for artistic freedom but it should not happen at the cost of historical facts. “It should be very clear that we will share the historical facts to the best of knowledge and will not be backing any political party,”
He is of the opinion that the age-old custom of ‘Jauhar’ (mass immolation) should be shown effectively in the film or else it can have adverse effects on the audience, he said, adding that it should not be romanticised in the film as well.
Speaking to the media, Prof. Khangarot said, he believes the entire tussle related to the movie is not between the Karni Sena and Sanjay Leela Bhansali. But between the director-producer and history, hence “once we watch the film, it will be clear if history has been tampered with or not”.
A four-member panel will be formed to review the film by next month.
The film, Padmavati is based on a book ‘Padmavat’. The film is a fictionalized account of the life of Rani Padmini, a legendary Hindu Rajput queen; she was the wife of Rana Rawal Ratan Singh, the Rajput ruler of Mewar.
