After being struck in controversies for the longest, the makers of Mohalla Assi are out with new trailer, with a different story line and new visuals. The movie stars Sunny Deol, Sakshi Tanwar and Ravi Kishan in the lead.
The official handle of Zee Music Company dropped the new trailer on social media. They captioned it, “Ab rachega #MohallaAssi ka naya itihaas. @iamsunnydeol #SakshiTanwar @ravikishann @MohallaAssiFilm #MohallaAssi”
The film is directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi and produced by Mr. Vinay Tiwari. It also stars Saurabh Shukla, Mukesh Tiwari, Rajendra Gupta and Mithilesh Chaturvedi in pivotal roles.
Mohalla Assi is the story of Pandey ji (Sunny Deol), who despite adverse situations, want to stick to his principles. Mohalla Assi is the story of Kanni Guru (Ravi Kissan) who has no principles. Mohalla Assi is the story of Nekram (Faisal Rashid) who makes his own principles. The conflict between the principles and realities of our time unfolds a challenging story of our great civilization.
The film is loosely based on Dr. Kashi Nath Singh’s popular Hindi novel Kashi Ka Assi, a satire on the commercialisation of the pilgrimage city, and fake gurus who lure the foreign tourists. Assi Ghat is a ghat in Varanasi (Banaras) on the banks of Ganges River, and the film is based in a famous and historical ‘Mohalla’ (locality) by the ghat, on the southern end of Banaras.
Sunny Deol plays the lead role of Sanskrit teacher and an orthodox religious priest (Pundit) while Sakshi Tanwar plays his wife. The story of the film goes through the events in 1990 and 1989 including Ram Janmabhoomi movement and Mandal Commission implementation.
On 30 June 2015, the release of Mohalla Assi was stayed by a Delhi court for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. Prior to its release Mohalla Assi leaked online on 11 August 2015.
Now the trailer is out and the film is slated for 16th November 2018.
