Raakesh Agarvwal Couture Presented Première Classe AT THE PEARLS’S INFRASTRUCTURE Delhi Couture Week, 2010,
AT THE GRAND, VASANT KUNJ, NEW DELHI ON THE 25th of JULY’2010 AT 3:00 P.M.
For his first Couture fashion show, Raakesh Agarvwal conjured a feast for the senses. Bringing to the fore a refreshing insight into a collection founded with a palate sated with colours and a balanced blend of symmetric shapes and forms, inspired by the female silhouette – Raakesh Agarvwal presented “Première Classe” at the Pearl’s Infrastructure Delhi Couture Week, 2010, New Delhi. The show opened with a grand surprise with Anushka Manchanda serenading the audience with a rendition of “Diamonds are forever”.
Seen applauding the collection by the youngest couturier in the world, was an enviable front – row with the who’s who of New Delhi like Tanisha Mohan, Ammu Saidi, Cheena Vig, Mala Sekhri, Gunjita Dhawan, Siddartha Tytler, and Gautam Kalra amongst many others. Raakesh’s supporters Harathi Reddy and Bina Goenka flew in especially for the occasion. Guests were heard praising Raakesh’s creations and Jacqueline Fernandes who was Raakesh’s showstopper added the glamour to the evening. All in all the capital welcomed Raakesh with open arms for his first show with FDCI.
About the collection:
He presents a vision that moves from glimmering flesh tones to delicious peaches. Then, his blushing pinks move sinuously into fuchsia tones, ending their journey in seductive wines. In material, an unparalleled blend of silks, jerseys, tulle, that cascade flawlessly down the runway like harmonious limericks.
Spot a Sprite, ephemeral in a luxe bathing suit like a vision on a yacht or a sun-kissed beach in San Tropez, made of charmeuse lycra a creation of layers of techniques draped and accessorised with an acrylic belt, choker and cuffs…
And while his signature all-out celebration of all that is glamorous takes you on a passage to all that’s chic, he also references our country’s love for the finer things.
He foil-prints sheer chiffons to create effects akin to cascading waterfalls of liquid metal, even as Lycra infused charmeuse hugs the body. Velvets and silk lamés complete the dream. With a chiffon sari accompanied by a bustier constructed of Perspex elements, Raakesh mixes the delicate with the daring, breathing fresh life into an ancient craft.

Hand embroidered, almost sheeted fabrics are first constructed into Goddess drapes, and then embroidered over to perfection.
The goddess returns to signal the finale ensemble harmoniously highlighting the creator’s vision in a corset – nothing short of a spectacular specimen of pattern – work, embellished tastefully with intricate zardozi and aari work, in shades of silver moving to deep purples crafted on silk lame Raakesh’s individual contemporary take on the classic lehangas….
The collection comes to life in the form of dresses, crop jackets, draped pants, short dresses, gowns, sari’s and lehanga’s drawn together with masterful techniques. As always, his built-in structures – corset-like in strength – define the body divine and turn his clothes into intricate, engineered works of art. Mixing fabrics and dyeing techniques, Raakesh’s wondrous creations are a testament to his mastery.
