The multitalented actor and filmmaker, Farhan Akhtar, gave his followers a sneak peek into a unique screening of his critically acclaimed film, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’, which recently celebrated a milestone tenth anniversary.
Last Friday, Akhtar took to his Instagram to share images from this screening and disclosed the exceptional news that the film is set to re-release with sign language interpretation, thereby making it accessible to audiences with hearing impairments.
The shared pictures featured an array of familiar faces from the film’s team, including co-star Divya Dutta, director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, and Milkha Singh’s daughter, Sonia Milkha Singh.

In his post, Akhtar reflected on the celebration of the legendary Milkha Singh’s story, captured beautifully in the film, and expressed his admiration for the initiative. “A special screening was held in Mumbai for people with hearing loss, marking a decade of Milkha ji’s story in cinema. The Indian Sign Language Organisation (ISL), Viacom 18, and Bharathi Mehra invested months of effort into creating a theatrical version of ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ with sign language, an endeavor that deserves immense appreciation. Being a part of this momentous occasion was genuinely overwhelming,” he wrote.
Earlier on July 21, Akhtar had posted a heartfelt tribute to the real-life hero, Milkha Singh, celebrating the ten-year journey of the film. He wrote, “His warmth, his accolades and his will continue to inspire millions. Remembering the legendary Milkha ji.”
Milkha Singh, one of India’s most celebrated athletes, reigned as the national champion in the 400 meters race. ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ brilliantly depicted his inspiring life journey, from his traumatic childhood during the India-Pakistan partition of 1947 to his rise as a successful athlete and national icon. The film garnered critical praise and was a commercial hit, with Akhtar’s transformation and portrayal of Milkha Singh being lauded for its authenticity and dedication. The film also starred Sonam Kapoor in a significant role.
In other news, Akhtar is all set to return to the director’s seat after a hiatus of nearly 11 years. His upcoming project, ‘Jee Le Zara’, is a female-centric road trip film starring Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra, and Katrina Kaif. Announced in 2021, this film is anticipated to be a heartfelt exploration of friendship, reminiscent of Akhtar’s previous hits, ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ and ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’.
