Vivek said he feels proud with the way the Indian media’s reactions towards the gangrape of a photojournalist here, compelled the administration for a quicker action. However, there must be respect for women and law, he said.

On Thursday evening, a woman photojournalist was raped by five men in the abandoned Shakti Mills compound near Mahalaxmi railway station where she was on an assignment along with a male colleague.

Two accused have been nabbed till now.

I am really happy and really proud of the Indian media that has come together unanimously on this and has shaken up the administration. It has pushed them to actively pursue this case and bring results immediately,” Vivek said here on the sidelines of the music launch of “Grand Masti”.

That’s what I think any good country’s good media will do,” he added.

His co-actor Riteish Deshmukh, son of late Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, says the country’s law is responsible for the rising rape cases.

Somewhere I feel that our law is not that strict and people are not afraid of it. So, our system needs to wake up and make sure that people fear the law,” Riteish said here.

Moreover, when a person will be aware that so and so law is there and it can be implemented, that fear will compel them not to do such acts, and that way these incidents may decrease to some level,” he added.

The movie’s third actor, Aftab Shivdasani is all for capital punishment for such culprits.

Law needs to do something really stern and it can be capital punishment also,” Aftab said.

When somebody does something like this, he does not fear the law and does not even have respect for the law. This is the fact that is consistently happening and now in our own city of Mumbai.

So the law needs to really do something, take action and set an example and have precedent for people who even think of something like that in future,” he added.
