Gurinder Chadha’s film gets a Hindi Dub Now

April 6, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): It’s a Wonderful Afterlife, Gurinder Chadha’s latest English film, which was earlier dubbed in Punjabi and called Hai Mar Java, has been scrapped and will have a Hindi version.

Starring Shabana Azmi, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Goldy Notay, the movie is about a Punjabi NRI mother in Britain (played by Shabana) whose only worry in life is to get her daughter married. Shabana, who had to learn Punjabi just for the film, isn’t impressed by the decision to scrap the Punjabi version.

Although Gurinder denied that the Punjabi version had been scrapped, Shabana confirmed it and stated that the Punjabi version was done away with because it didn’t have a pan-India appeal and that Hindi works better in the country. She is now dubbing for the film in Hindi.

Gurinder, however, states that the Punjabi version hasn’t been scrapped and that it’s Punjabi with a Hindi flavour.

The film’s English version will be releasing in UK on April 23rd and May 7th is the release date for the Hindi version.
