Hats off to Shah Rukh Khan who credits his heroine first says Divya Dutta

Divya Dutta was present at the Panel Discussion for ‘Breaking the Boundaries’ with Renuka Shahane, Shubhangi Mehrotra, Ishita Sharma and Mehak Arora. During media interaction, the actress praised Shah Rukh Khan for his contribution to gender equality in the industry.

Divya Dutta who has been part of the industry since early 2000’s was asked how the industry is changing for women, she said, “Industry is changing beautifully especially when it involves women. In film crew women are seen more than men, my DOP’s are female, assistants, dress designers, set designers are all female, it is great to see such varied professions being taken. As far as credit is concerned I would like to say Hats off to someone like Shah Rukh Khan who list’s the actress’s name before his in film credits. I think these kinds of changes are coming into the industry and I think it should also reflect on society too.”

Deepika Padukone who has been named as one of the top paid actresses but comparatively, it’s still lower than male actors, when asked about the pay gap between actors of genders Divya said, “Deepika is being paid beautifully and I am so proud of that girl. Kananga and Priyanka are being paid very well as well. It’s great that they are on an equivalent level of their male counterparts.”

She further added, “There is also a matter of demand and supply if you create hits people will pay you what you want. All 3 are delivering those hits but ones it subsides things change but that show the industry works.”

Colosseum Festival organized the Breaking the Boundaries’ which is by the youth of Mithibai College, Divya was asked to comment on this youth initiative she said, “When youth takes initiative it helps build up courage among other people. Youth paves the path for future. We see lots of things happening around us but it is in the hands of the youth makes those changes and to change how we think. And it is changing through social media and I think it is great.”

The actress will be seen in ‘Gul Makai’ and in ‘Fanney Khan’ with Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai, and Rajkummar Rao.
