Over the years, I have seen Sajid Khan trash movies, actors and directors left, right and centre. He dominated the tele tube with shows for the same purpose. Known for his biting sarcasm and stinging humor (reminiscent of American humor), people from the industry are very weary of this host and dost- Sajid Khan. Don’t know about the host bit, but he was not a good dost to a lot of people. Now, after so many bitter years, he had finally come up with his first solo venture as a feature film director and has given us Heyy Babyy. His sister has fit into the director’s shoes quite snugly. Let us see if Sajid Khan fits the bill and follows suit.

Ritesh Deshmukh, Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan and the baby in Heyy Babyy
The movie is about three bachelors who have only one aim in life- women. Akshay Kumar, Ritesh Deshmukh and Fardeen Khan are incorrigible flirts who are serial daters and treat women like tissue paper. One day, they get the shock of their lives when they find a baby girl at their doorstep with a note stating that one of them is the father. After fierce denials and accusations, they decide to dump the infant. But after doing so, they feel real bad about themselves and rush to get her back. They all decide to raise the child christened Angel. She becomes the joy of their lives when another bombshell is dropped. The mother (Vidya Balan) turns up and we finally get to know that Akshay is the father. She takes Angel away from them and makes their lives empty and devoid of anything meaningful. Determined to get back on track, they device ways through which Akshay can win Vidya back.
Vidya Balan in Heyy Babyy
Now that we know the basics, its time to get down to the dirty stuff. The cinematography of the film is a treat and the pacing is good. But the screenplay seems to be a let down, and that’s not helping the movie in anyway. We see the storyline go on unwanted tangents and parallel tracks very often. The comedy is good, but not excellent or amazingly funny. The ting that really gets on your nerves is without a doubt the emotional sections. There is only one way to describe them and that is over the top and fake. Oh, that’s more than one, but believe me, its sugar coated. It really boggles your mind that a guy like Sajid could be behind all this.
Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Ritesh Deshmukh and Vidya Balan in Heyy Babyy
Getting to the actors – well no one can deny that Akshay Kumar holds most of it in his hands. This actor has superb comic timing and is undoubtedly the glue that holds this movie together. Ritiesh Deshmukh compliments Akshay and completes his part of the bargain. Fardeen, on the other hand, is a little in the shade compared to these two. Vidya Balan as the mom has been wrongly cast. Try as she might, she just seems incapable of pulling off the part of a bombshell. Also, the extra weight does not fit the role at all and she should have considered doing something about it.
Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Ritesh Deshmukh and Vidya Balan in Heyy Babyy
A very average film, at the most is what I would call it. Quite disappointing, actually, considering all the funny scenes are in the promos. Just a piece of advice to Sajid – What goes around comes around, so don’t be surprised if a large part of Bollywood and the public sneer and jeer.
