Writer-director Manish Gupta, who has written ‘SARKAR’ and has directed ‘THE STONEMAN MURDERS’ has been conducting a unique road trip through all colleges big and small throughout Mumbai, spreading the message of ‘Anti-Ragging’ which is the central theme of his next film ‘HOSTEL’ that releases end of January 2011.
This unique road trip has covered the following colleges so far – IIT Bombay (Powai), Jai Hind college (Churchgate), Ruia College (Matunga). Lala Lajpat Rai College (Mahalaxmi), Chetna college (Bandra), K.J. Somaiya college (Ghatkopar) and many more. The next in the list are Mithibai college (Vile Parle), National College (Bandra) and others. A total number of 41 colleges across Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur and Nagpur will be covered by this unique road trip which has also started making a move into Delhi, Dehra Dun and Bangalore.
Manish quotes: “Cinema is a very powerful medium and has an instant connect with the youth. Therefore, I hope to bring about awareness and make a difference.”
Keeping to his word, Manish shows the students of each college he visits – an anti-ragging video (compiled from clips of the film) and he educates the students about the potential perils of indulging in Ragging. The visit to each college ends with a question and answer or debate session wherein students are allowed to interact with the straight-talking writer-director on a one to one basis and throw queries at him.
