Akshay Kumar gearing up for the release of sports Drama Gold said, he hoped things will change for Hockey after the film’s release.

The actor was present along with the cast and crew of the film including Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Vineet Kumar Singh, Mouni Roy, Sunny Kaushal, music composers Sachin-Jigar and director Reema Kagti.

There have been many films released on Hockey like, ‘Chak De India’ and now ‘Soorma’ and ‘Gold’ still the sport has not received as much attention from audiences, when talking about the spotlight Bollywood has thrown on the sport Akshay said, “I hope after this film, hockey gets the respect that it commands. It is an important game that gave our country the first ever gold medal after independence. So I hope things change after our film,”

People should know what happened in 1948… How we won the first Olympic gold medal in hockey after the independence of India. I think things also have changed because the government is supporting the sport a lot, the number of medals are increasing in the game, so I am happy seeing the encouragement,” Akshay said.

‘Gold’ is a historical sports drama, inspired by India’s first Olympic gold medal that traces the “golden era” of Indian hockey through the journey of Tapan Das, a young assistant manager in 1936, who dreams of playing for an independent nation.

Directed by Reema Kagti and produced by Excel Entertainment ‘Gold’ will release on August 15.
