Actor Suniel Shetty attended first season of Box Bowl Out X underarm cricket series orgainsed by Zeeshan Siddique on Saturday in Mumbai. During media interaction Shetty said that it’s important to encourage sports in our country.
Suniel Shetty is captain of the Mumbai Heroes cricket team in the Celebrity cricket league. Talking about first season of Box Bowl Out X underarm cricket series, Shetty said, “It reminded me of my childhood days. I never imagined there will be competition on this level because when you visit sports countries like New Zealand and Australia where you see their grounds and their kids playing in uniforms it feels amazing so I think Zeeshan managed something that is unreal. Seeing the kind of teams and number of enthusiasts here, I think it’s unbelievable. I think a sport is the only thing which instills confidence in children and if you see real hero in schools also is someone who related to a sport. I think when you play a sport, you are treated as a hero so I think it’s very important to encourage sports in our country. If you see ‘Khelo India’ campaign, we are making an effort to bring talent from smaller cities and villages. Emergence of MS Dhoni has proven to the world that if you have talent, they you can perform at any platform and I think these are the platforms where you can find new talent so it’s an amazing league and I wish all the best to all of them and I think the better team will win”
Talking about underarm cricket format, Shetty said, “It’s a difficult format to play. I remember when I did film with Vinod Kambli, that time I used bowled him out in each lunch break playing underarm cricket . You are not easily able to understand pace and movement of ball in underarm cricket because bowlers bowl here with small run-ups and they managed to spin the ball either ways so I think underarm cricket has given birth to some of the finest players in cricket growth of Mumbai.”
Yesterday, Mumbai Cricket Association also launched T20 Mumbai cricket league, talking about it Shetty said, “It’s a fantastic move. If you see sports hasn’t been approved from parent’s point of view. Each time, they say it’s ok to play a sport but whether you will manage to run your house through that so now I think you can shape your career in sports field as well whether it is cricket, kabaddi, badminton, boxing, wrestling or rifle shooting. I think whenever a team sport will grow, children of our country will get an opportunity and it will become an optional career path which is very important”
Suniel Shetty last seen in ‘A Gentleman’ along with Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez.
