Actor Jackky Bhagnani and Pooja Bhatt came forward to lend their support to BMC’s cleanliness drive on Chimbai beach, Bandra on Sunday.
Talking about the initiative, Jacky said, “We are following PM Narendra Modi’s vision and I feel, we should not expect only from government authorities. People should come forward to contribute towards cleanliness initiative. We should generate awareness about cleanliness so that more and more people join this campaign and stop throwing garbage at public places.
Pooja Bhatt said, “I am very grateful that our effort in terms of cleaning Versova beach has been recognized by Narendra Modi. I feel, continuity is really important in this process and it comes through sense of community. We shouldn’t only blame BMC or government authorities and people should dispose their garbage more responsibly.”
Earlier, the 86-week-long campaign that transformed Versova beach, one of the dirtiest in Mumbai, to one of its cleanest, found a mention in ‘Mann ki Baat’ — a monthly radio programme hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Last December, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) called it the world’s largest beach clean-up in history and awarded Shah UN’s top environmental accolade — Champions of the Earth award at Cancun, Mexico, making him the first Indian to achieve such a feet. The campaigners have cleared 5.4-million-kg trash from the beach in the last one-and-a-half year.
