Karan Wahi roots for buddy Shikhar Dhawan

April 24, 2010 (Sampurn Wire):The IPLgate notwithstanding, all eyes are geared on the big final on April 25. League toppers Mumbai Indians take on Chennai Superstars at the DY. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Mumbaikars are invariably rooting for the home team. Actor Karan Wahi (a.k.a Siddhant Modi of Dill Mill Gayye) too is rooting for Mumbai but his loyalty is more personal than regional. So revealed Wahi to TellyCafe.

Delhi batsman Shikhar Dhawan, who has been playing for the Mumbai Indians since IPL 2, is actually Wahi’s childhood friend. The duo has known each right from the first standard.

“We’ve know each other since our primary school days. We’ve played cricket together for many years. He made it to the top while I quit the game after representing Delhi at under -17 level. I had to be sure in which direction I was heading with regards to my cricket. Since, I didn’t find one, I quit the game,” said Wahi.

Coming back to the grand final, Wahi says, “It will be one great match. I’m supporting Mumbai Indians primarily because of Shikhar. When he was with Delhi Daredevils, I was supporting that team. We talk to each other regularly .He’s invited me for the final but it would be naïve of me to ask him for more passes, thus my friends and I will probably buy the tickets. I’ve asked for an off from work. Let’s see it if works out.”

India and Chennai Super Kings skipper MS.Dhoni is admired by most but not Karan.

‘I’m anti-Dhoni. I’ve got nothing against the Indian captain but it’s just that I’m too much in awe of Sachin (Tendulkar), Ganguly and other older boys. It doesn’t matter whether he’s fit or not, I’d like Sachin to play the final,” he sighed.

The actor is upset that Dhawan hasn’t been able to make it to the national side

“Representing India, doesn’t always count on your talent. Selection has always been a dubious issue. Shikhar is hugely talented but he’s been very unfortunate to not have represented India. When I left cricket, I told Shikhar that one-day, I’d like to see him in the national inside while he wanted to see me in a Bollywood film. Unfortunately, both our dreams hasn’t materialised yet. However, you must never say die.”

Right said Wahi. We like to offer our best wishes to Shikhar, Mumbai Indians and you.
