Karmyudh is not just the story of one woman, it is the story of an entire system-Vaishnavi

Published on

Actress Vaishnavi is best known for being “Ladki hai kya hai re baba”girl, in the Anil Kapoor starrer “Laadla”. But her claim to fame remains the portrayal of a journalist “Geeta” in the hit series “ Shaktimaan”. She became a household name when she acted in serials “Kasautii Zindagi Ki”, “Ek ladki anjaani si”, “Dekho magar pyaar se”, “Mile jab hum tum”, “Choti Maa”, “Bairi Piya” etc. Vaishnavi will now be seen in the Doordarshan serial “Karmyudh” essaying the role of a young and dynamic policewoman Shivangi Chauhan. We caught hold of her on the sets of her serial in Future Studios in Mumbai and we spoke to her regarding her role. Excerpts.

Vashnavi in Karmyudh.jpgTell us something more about your role in the serial “Karmyudh” and also the story.
“Karmyudh” is the story of the ever-changing social conditions, family-values and traditions, luck, courage and the thought process of the Indian society. “Karmyudh” focuses mainly on the rampant corruption taking place in our society and the way to fight it. It not the story of a single woman, but of an entire social system. The show also points towards the negative events taking place in our society and encourages people to raise their voices against it. I am playing the role of “Shivangi Chauhan” who is a strong woman, an ideal mother, wife and a daughter-in-law. My character Shivangi is extremely determined and dedicated to her work.

Why did you choose to work in “Karmyudh”?

I really liked the story of the serial when I first heard it. I have worked with Keval jee before also and I really like to work in a good and hospitable environment. We all get along very well and that’s what makes it a healthy working environment. Also this is a weekly series and nowadays hardly any weekly serials are being made.

Rohini Hattangadi, Vaishnavi in Karmyudh.jpgHow was it working with Harsh Chaaya and Rohini jee?
It was a good experience working with such talented and well-known actors from the industry. Both of them are playing very powerful roles in the serial. Harsh Chaaya is shown as my husband “Yashwant Chauhan” a young politician-extremely idealistic in nature and always sticking to his principals. Rohini Jee is playing the role of Maa Sa who also happens to be my mother-in-law. She is the glue that holds the family together especially Shivangi and Yashwant who are otherwise extremely volatile when it comes to applying their ideals in real life.

Are you planning to do comedy any time soon?

I love comedy. I want to try out stand-up comedy. I have earlier acted in a comedy serial on Sahara One named “Raju Raja Raja Ram”.

Rohini Hattangadi, Vaishnavi, Harsh Chhaya in Karmyudh.jpgWhat was your experience doing a dance reality show “Saas v/s Bahu”.
I really enjoyed working for a dance reality show as I really love dancing. I even bagged 2 trophies “Best dancer of the series and another one when our team “Saas Team” won. Initially I was having some inhibitions about dancing in front of my seniors .But later on as the show progressed I shed my inhibitions and lost my fear of dancing in front my seniors. If I get a chance I would love to participate in another dance reality show.

Are you doing any movies?
Yes I am doing a movie titled as “Saancha”. This is a very unique film and the audience will find it hard to recognize me on screen. I am playing the role of a brick-maker and my role is similar to the role of Smita Patil in the movie “Mirch-masala”. This movie was made especially to win the awards.
