Made a little weak this time. There is no denying the fact that Koffee with Karan is one of the most entertaining and interesting celebrity talk shows in Indian television today. We get everything that we are looking for – stars, gossip, leg pulling, camaraderie and of course, loads of fun. All this over a cup of coffee that we share with our favorite celebs. This season has been extremely successful and the re telecast of last week’s episode was a scorcher because it felt like Karan was with his family -Kajol, Shahrukh and Rani. A complete master blaster of an episode, it left us wanting more.
This time, Karan brought together two very unusual guests – first we saw a very fit and fine Anil Kapoor with a fantastic new hair color (red suits him). As Karan and he got comfortable, we saw Anil talking about his long love affair of 30 years (no wait a minute!) with the Indian film industry. He swears that it has given him all he wanted and more. When asked how he feels about his daughter now debuting in Saawariya, he said he is ecstatic and has great expectations from her. There was no mistaking the proud father when he spoke about his kids. A curious Karan then asked him about his fidelity and got a very surprising answer-that there is nothing like complete fidelity in Anil’s life! Now that’s a gamble to take on national television right?
Sensing trouble, Karan quickly proceeded to his next guest for the evening – a handsome and dapper Akshaye Khanna. He looked rather dishy in his cool and casual outfit. One thing that struck me hard when I saw the two heroes sitting on the couch together was their shoes! Anil had something that looked like cowboy boots on and Akshaye was in All Stars! But they both looked great and that’s what matters.

There was no mistaking that the two guests had a lot in common and were very comfortable with each other. It also looked like Karan was not too comfortable with the two of them since they aren’t from his “camp”, so to speak.
It was basically to promote Anil’s first film as a producer in which Akshaye is the protagonist. Gandhi, My Father is set to release on the 3 rd of August and from what can be seen from the promos, it looks like one masterpiece. Anyway, in between talks that revolved around the film, Karan managed to squeeze in a rapid fire, but it was more than obvious that it really was not all funny and smooth sailing.
Bet Karan was relieved once it was over because he could breathe again. I guess next week’s episode will be with guests whom our host is more comfortable with. Maybe then we can have more fun watching it. But then again, both the actors had nothing much to talk to Karan about – one has been around the block and then some while the other gave Karan a tough time while growing up. So you see no common ground. Here is hoping for something stronger next week.
