The esteemed Indian actor Manoj Bajpayee has once again left his mark on the international cinema scene by clinching the Best Actor Award at the distinguished Durban International Film Festival 2023. This recognition was conferred upon him for his exceptional performance in the film ‘Joram’.

In a collaborative Instagram post by both Manoj Bajpayee and the production company Zee Studios, they expressed their delight and honour by stating, “#Joram sparkles at the top of the prestigious @durbaninternationalfilmfest, thanks to the extraordinary talents of @bajpayee.manoj, who secured the Best Actor award, and @PiyushPuty who was recognized for his stellar work with the Best Cinematography award.

Under the expert direction of Devashish Makhija, ‘Joram’ stands as a thrilling narrative about survival, focused on the life of a displaced indigenous man. This remarkable piece of cinema was brought to life by Makhijafilm, an independent production house co-owned by Devashish and renowned curator-producer Anupama Bose.

The film also sees special appearances by Tannishtha Chatterjee and Rajshri Deshpande, adding more depth to the storyline.

Reflecting on his journey of portraying his character in ‘Joram’, Manoj Bajpayee previously shared, “The film Joram unravels the gripping tale of a man caught in the crossfire of his past and present. Playing the complex character of Darsu, whose life is a stark contrast between then and now, was a compelling experience for me. Darsu may appear as an ordinary individual to the untrained eye, but he is anything but common! A truly mesmerizing story populated with such potent characters! Collaborating with Zee Studios & Devashish Makhija has been a sheer joy. I am eternally proud of the artistically gratifying relationship we share.
