Actor Shahid Kapoor attended FILMFARE Glamour & Style Awards 2017 on Friday in Mumbai. During media interaction, Shahid stated his heart goes out for his upcoming movie ‘Padmavati’s director Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Thursday appeared before a Parliamentary standing committee on Information Technology to share his views on the controversy surrounding the film.

As per the latest updates, the panel stands divided. According to TV reports, clerics from Uttar Pradesh have also slammed Bhansali, alleging that the film is an attempt to malign Alauddin Khilji.

Bhansali has also been questioned on why he screened the movie for the media before getting the CBFC clearance. The panel also told Bhansali that he was trying to “supersede the Censor Board”, as per TV reports., so when asked Shahid about his film’s director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Shahid said, “My heart goes out for him. He is probably one of the finest filmmaker that I have worked with and he has trying his level best to release the film. I feel eventually, everything becomes subjective. Everybody can have their opinion and the whole idea of democracy is to respect each other’s opinions and to do things with love, warmth and belief and I feel people should see that the person in front of us is not deliberately trying to harm us but he has been at the receiving end for lot of criticism and more than that he is not able to show his film”

“For somebody of his caliber to not able to present his film is not something that is right and that too for him at this stage and this stature in his career. I am just wishing, praying and sending lots of love to him every day. Nobody will ever want to make a film to hurt anybody’s sentiments because everybody wants to make film for the maximum number of people to view it and that’s the basic of cinema as a medium and I hope people will believe that”

Talking about criticism the film is receiving from all quarters and it has been already banned in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat and Rajasthan for its release and the delay from CBFC to give clearance to the film for its release, Shahid said, “I don’t think things have worsened. I think it’s taking longer than anybody anticipated and of course we are all surprised by the fact that it’s taking so long. In the regular course of things, it never takes so long. We all know release date of the film has been deferred. I don’t think things are extremely bad either but of course it’s very strange the way things have happened and its very strange that people are choosing to decide before watching the film so that’s very weird. I have been saying this throughout that people have pre-conceived notions which are not based on any facts because facts can be discussed only once so it’s very surprising to see so many people talking about something that they haven’t watched”

When asked Shahid about promotional strategy of ‘Padmavati’, he said, “Earlier I promoted Padmavati for few days. I did radio interviews and one more promotional event for it after that we didn’t promote because we are not sure when we are going to release the film so it doesn’t makes sense to go to promote the film unless there is a plan in place. As soon as we will have clarity on that we will be everywhere”

‘Padmavati’ is based on sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s ‘Padmavat’. In Padmavati, Shahid is playing character of Maharawal Ratan Singh Deepika Padukone is playing Queen Padmini and Ranveer Singh is playing Mughal emperor Allauddin Khilji.
