The brief of the story:
Taarak Mehta, our “Sutradhar” (the narrator) is a humorist and one of the residents of the building, giving us a peek into the homes & the hearts of the people living here. The drama predominantly revolves around Jethalal’s family. Daya, Jethalal’s wife is funny but a smart housewife who always gets her things done according to her mind blowing Ahmedabadi ideas. They live with their naughty son, Tapu and Jethalal’s father, Champaklal. The other society members are a tuition teacher cum society secretary Aatmaram Tukaram Bhide who lives with wife Madhavi and daughter Sonu, South Indian Iyyer living with his beautiful wife Babita , Dr. Hathi is actually what his name suggests & he lives with his wife and son, Sodhi who is a Punjabi but married to a Parsi lady and both husband and wife have nothing in common except their name ‘Roshan’ & live with their son. There is a journalist Patrakaar Popatlal who still lives only in the aura of newspapers and we also have a TV journalist Rita Reporter. Then Natu kaka is hard of hearing and works at Jetha’s shop. The story is about the incidents in their lives and how all this affects other members of the building. In a tongue in cheek style, our humorist narrates the farcical and hilarious aspects of the drama that is an integral part of the daily drudgery called life. It is a vibrant comedy with subtle humor sometimes bordering on the very funny human complexities. In a way it highlights the comic reality underlying our daily life.
