June 10, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): The perky Genelia D’Souza recently tweeted that she had just finished shooting for a rain song. While it was a fairly ordinary event, we’re sure it had many of us thinking, ‘not another one!’
Rain songs have appeared in Bollywood flicks since earliest of times. Think Raj Kapoor and Nargis in ‘Pyar hua Ikrar hua’ or Sridevi in ‘Kaante nahi katate’! Rainy numbers have evolved from those times to the present day ‘Barso re Megha’ or ‘Zoobi Doobi’! De Dana Dan even had a bonus track ‘Gale Lag Ja’ featuring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif dancing in the rain.
So have rain songs been done to death in our cinema? Countless lists of Top 10 rain songs have been composed till date and each sees a new entry. Filmmakers must come up with some new fresh ideas for songs. Till then, we’re stuck with ‘Tip Tip barsa pani’ and the likes!
