Hansal Mehta helmed Omerta, starring Rajkummar Rao just premiered in River to River festival in Florence, Italy.
Rajkummar Rao excited about the achievement took to his social media account and shared the news with all the fans. He wrote, “Just a couple of hours away from the Italian premiere of #Omertà at @river2riverfiff in beautiful Florence. An Indian film with an Italian title!”
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta has chosen the River to River festival in Florence to present his latest film in Italy, which is also titled in Italian in its original version: “Omertà”. The film tells the story of Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh as a terrorist, responsible for the kidnapping of western tourists in India in 1994 and the murder of the Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Pearl.
The film is yet to release in the Indian market but has been winning accolades across the globe. The movie was screened in the Special Presentations section at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival.
The movie also stars Rajesh Tailang as General Mahmud and Rupinder Nagra as Maulana Ismail.
Hansal Mehta and Rajkummar Rao make a formidable team — the director-actor duo have worked on three films together — Aligarh, CityLights and Shahid, and the films have won accolades for the way Mehta manages to portray a sensitive issue on the silver screen. Rajkumar Rao even won a National Award for his performance in Shahid and became the youngest National Award winner in history. And we expect nothing less from upcoming Omerta.
