Saif & Kunal’s passion for Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic!

Saif Ali Khan promotes Tata tea at Joss on 11th feb 2008 (2).JPGRightly said by Kunal Kohli that none of the film Saif has done is similar to the other. He plays a different character in each film and that is his specialty. Take for example films like Dil Chahta Hai, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Hum Tum, Parineeta, Being Cyrus, Omkara, Race, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, Saif’s characters are so different from each other that the fact that these all have been done by a single actor becomes surprising. Kunal was answering a press meet at London recently where the director actor duo has gone to promte their upcoming film Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic.

Saif finds it equally enjoyable as well as tiring to work with both kids and adults. He quite cheerfully notes that adults can bee difficult and so are the kids. He even says that the saying that working with kids and animals, one can easily get into trouble with them. He further adds that the four kids in Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic however were energetic and were very real without any rehearsals. They wanted the kids to not look filmy and they got it from the kids they took in the film. Saif loves to work opposite Kareena, Preity and Rani. He even added that he is really cool with Rani. Though he had differences with Rani, he had a great onscreen chemistry with her and if given a chance Saif would love to work with Kareena even if he is doubtful about their chemistry with each other. Saif even stated that he used to annoy Rani on the sets of TPTM.

The Chote Nawab answers quite easily to the question if Omkara is his best acting stint. Saif wonders that he has been searching for the same thing in all his films that made him hold back for some time but now he has learnt to take up different and challenging roles. He thanks Brad Pitt for getting this though in him. He was inspired by Brad Pitt’s different characters in all his films. Saif wanted to do something like that like long hair in one film to a bald head in another. He confesses that the audience would never see his films to find the same in every film. He thinks he looks spoilt and he is a Nawab which makes it even more difficult to look different in his films. For Omkara, he had to limp and cut his hair really short and have a gold teeth fixed with a red nail and a highly deep accent. In Hum Tum he looked like a normal young guy with a fresh appeal. But acting wise both films were equally difficult to do and he tried hard more for Hum Tum than Omkara.

Both Saif and Kunal are protective about the films and they don’t appreciate the way the press previews are done for Hollywood flicks. They both opine it might damage the film’s business. Seems like they are not too confident about the ratings of Indian film critics! Talking about his character in TPTM, Saif says the father in him was nothing animated but warm and kind. Saif informed that the rumors that TPTM has been taken from Mary Poppins are somewhat right and his character Ranbeer in TPTM is equivalent to Bruce Wayne. Saif had to play a restrained aloof kind of an elder who doesn’t understand the kids and vice versa. Saif plays the character of a sharp businessman and the waistcoats made him feel older than his age. He compares himself to Sanjeev Kumar.

Kunal was defensive about the Yash Raj kind of films tag that seems underrated and stated that even Steven Spielberg film can be repetitive as well. Yash Raj has given films like Fanna and Chak De India. Saif even got the national award for his role in Hum Tum. Saif is happy that he has grown out of the tagged character he used to play a few years back and considers Being Cyrus is far better in terms of creative satisfaction. Both Kunal and Saif hope the film does a good business that would be their magical part about the film.

Saif wants to work with Kunal again because, he says his good luck started with Hum Tum. He even enjoyed working in Omkara and with Sriram Raghavan. He finds it comfortable to work with Kunal but he enjoyed working in Parineeta with Pradeep Sarkar as well. He has produced four films with Yash Raj films and considers Yash Raj to be a family to him. Expectations are high from this film not only from the audience but the filmmakers as well, let’s hope he does some magic at the box office.
