Filmmaker Shoojit Sircar who is considered as one of the finest directors of film industry says that bound script is spine of his films.
Shooojit Sircar was speaking with media when he launched trailer of his upcoming film ‘October’ along with Varun Dhawan, Banita Sandhu, Ronnie Lahiri and Juhi Chaturvedi on Monday in Mumbai.
Talking about how bound script plays major factor in the making of films, Sircar said, “In my films, spine of the film is script. I go through an entire process of emotions when we are writing a script then we cast the film. In my film, everybody is a character so there is nothing like male or female protagonist of the film. Everybody is playing their part in the film and even my technicians, cinematographer, editor and musician, they are as star and as heroic as leading cast of the film. So in Varun’s case he fit the bill absolutely when I looked him into his eyes. When I casted Deepika Padukone in ‘Piku’, she mentioned that everyone was questioning her that what are you doing with Shoojit Sircar as the kind of films she does and the kind of films I make are completely poles apart but I think I am lucky in all my films that they have worked I thought they will never work. Sperm Donor story (Vicky Donor) cannot work, constipatation story (Piku) cannot work so I don’t know how people liked it. I thank the audience for liking those films. As far as, October is concerned, it has changed me as a human being and it also changed our relationships with each other. In my films, we work like a family and now I think they all are my kids”
When asked Sircar what was his brief to Varun Dhawan, when he was finalized to play lead in ‘October, he said, “It requires honesty in my films all the time so we decided that we will cast fresh actors for the film. Even we auditioned for Varun’s character in the entire country because we were in that process and by chance I met varun and I saw Dan’s character in him. Now, trailer of the film looks quite intriguing but when audience will watch the film then they might agree with me. I liked the way Varun introduced himself because I have different perception altogether of people who become overnight stars as I am not used to that. I am used to my kind of cinema so when he came to me I said will you surrender yourself for this film and be honest with it then he said ‘Sir generally I am a honest person and what you see outside is not real me’ and for this film, I instructed him to observe a plant in his house everyday for 10 minutes as part of his home work for this film and he did that and said ‘I am feeling very good and I am out of my phone’ and he also agreed that checking his phone everyday used to give him anxiety and I think throughout shooting of this film he followed my instruction blindly”
The trailer of ‘October’ gives sense of unconditional love between character played by Varun Dhawan and Banita Sandhu s, when asked Sircar what his thought behind making this film, he said, “My brief was very small for the film. We wanted to do a love story and we said how do you define love as there are many ways of looking at it and we always talk about unconditional love so we also thought about its quite an abused word as how do you prove unconditional love and what is that one thing that we can do for unconditional love. I have only seen unconditional love between a mother and a son or a mother and daughter so nowhere else, I have seen unconditional love so that was our inception or starting point that me and Juhi (Chaturvedi) discussed and then, I told her to write a story accordingly that”
Shhojit Sircar has worked with Irrfan Khan is super successful film ‘Piku’ which released in 2015 and since then both shares great bond with each other and now, Sircar has given sigh of relief to curious fans of Irrfan Khan when asked to him to comment on Irrfan Khan’s health as there were numerous false news reports floating around his ill-health, he said, “Irrfan Khan has already released a press statement and requested media not speculate about his health issues and I think he is the only actor who is actually regarded as Hollywood star in our country and who has worked with all top of the line directors in Hollywood. So, I met him twice – thrice few days ago after he was keeping unwell. He is really nice human being and he is very close to me. I just want to say that he is fine now and very soon he will issue public statement from which all your questions will get its answers so I urge media not to speculate on its health issue”
Shrouded in mystery, the trailer of ‘October’ declares that – ‘this is not a love story’ but is a ‘story about love’ as Varun Dhawan – tries to figure out why a colleague of his, who’s now in the ICU, was enquiring about him. Very soon the action shifts from the metropolis to a picturesque hill station where love probably kicks in between Varun Dhawan and Banita Sandhu.
‘October’ is romantic drama film directed by Shoojit Sircar and written by Juhi Chaturvedi. The film stars Varun Dhawan and Banita Sandhu in lead roles. Produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar under Rising Sun Films productions, the film is scheduled for release on 13 April 2018.
