January 26, 2011 : The recipients for the country’s second highest civilian award the Padma Vibhushan has been given to the Telegu star A. Nageshwar Rao.The 86-year old has made more than 250 films with most bringing him great awards.The Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri Awards have been announced and the list is quite awesome with many Bollywood celebrities getting to be a part of the coveted list of recipients.
Amongst the list of Padma Bhushan recipients’ are names like the 72-year old Shashi Kapoor, known for his dimpled smile and great films like Deewar, Trishul, Aa Gale Lag Jaa etc. 74-year old Waheeda Rehman known for her great beauty and amazing talent which she showed in some of the greatest hits like Guide, Saheb Bibi Aur Ghulam etc. along with 84-year old music maestro Khayyam who is known for his amazing renditions through the ages.
The recipients of the Padma Shri Award are names like 35-year old Kajol, Tabu and Irrfan Khan.
Kajol, who has had a great career in Bollywood with some great films in her kitty right from Dil Waale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to the recent My Name is Khan to name just a few. Kajol is happily married to actor Ajay Devgn and she has reportedly taken a few years off from her work after her last release Toonpur Ka Super Hero in order to look after her kids.
40-year old Tabu, who is an extremely talented actress, has also worked in many movies with her most memorable performances being in Chandi Bar and Cheeni Kum.
Irrfan Khan, who is also a very talented actor in Bollywood who has worked in films like Maqbool, The Namesake, Knockout, Chocolate, Salaam Bombay to name just a few.
The Padma Shri has also been conferred on the Kannada film maker Girish Kasaravalli, 61-year old who is regarded as one of the pioneers of parallel Kannada cinema. He has won four National Awards too. Malayalam director Shaji N Karun, 59-year old has also won the award this year. He has been a recipient of several National Awards as a director and a cinematographer. Actor Jayaram Subramanian who is a well known actor in Kerala has been an actor much appreciated in family dramas.
