An actor (Hrithik Roshan) who is caught in the web of his own stardom. A producer (Rishi Kapoor) who is finding it hard to find stars for his film. A star kid (Isha Sharvani) who is getting into ‘Helloji Namasteji’ mode. A Diva (Dimple Kapadia) who is looking at taking her brand name forward. A film maker (Sanjay Kapoor) who looks for West for inspiration. And still Farhan Akhtar insists that LUCK BY CHANCE is not a spoof on the film industry. Also he denies that his film makes any promises of getting into the underbelly of Bollywood.
“I don’t see any spoof element in the film. Yes, there are certain liberties that we take in any movie and LUCK BY CHANCE is no different. What may look spoofy to you is something that should be looked as believable instead. There are extremely comical situations in the movie and that’s because the characters there are based on so many real people in the film industry that we come across every second day of the production”, says Farhan who is anxious to see the response of audience after his debut outing ROCK ON where there weren’t much expectations from him.
But then there are characters played by Rishi Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Dimple Kapadia, Hrithik Roshan, Sanjay Kapoor etc. who do seem to be conveying a certain spoof touch somewhere, isn’t it?
“As I said, as far as some characters in LUCK BY CHANCE, such people do exist. These are the people who have been around for decades. It’s interesting to see them on screen because that’s the way we wanted to represent different kind of characters who have varied personalities. But beyond that, we haven’t consciously tried to project anyone in a spoofy manner”, defends Farhan.
In LUCK BY CHANCE, Farhan Akhtar is shown to be enacting the role of a struggler. In real life too, has he ever interacted with them closely?
“Quite a few of them actually”, Farhan says quickly, “I know them personally and while few of them have made it, many of them are still trying to make a name for themselves. I have enough information about such people, their background, the way they make their ends meet during the struggle period, what makes them tick even though they have gone through a humiliating phase and their overall attitude towards work.
Talking about the journey towards the release of LUCK BY CHANCE and life after that, Farhan says, “As of now, my entire focus is on 30th January, the release date of the film. Then in the month of April, I should be starting work on KARTIK CALLING KARTIK which is a really interesting subject. It is being helmed by a new director and has a fantastic script that is really challenging. I am looking forward to the beginning of the shoot.”
