Vidhu Vinod Chopra always wanted to make an international film. He was in talks with Dustin Hoffman and was serious about making a movie with Amitabh Bachchan and the Hollywood actor some years ago. But alas, that project never took off.
But now he’s ready to make his directorial debut in Hollywood with ‘Broken Horses’. And this time he has found a leading man from Hollywood. And it’s none other than Golden Globe Best Actor winner and Oscar’s contender for ‘The Wrestler’, Mickey Rourke.
He’s said, ” I had seen a special screening of Rourke’s The Wrestler before the awards fever began I was bowled over by his performance. Both of us had an instant connect when we met in Los Angeles. He was my first choice and was finalized even before he won the Golden Globe; it’s great to have him on board for one of the key roles in the film. Mickey deserves all the acclaim he is getting and I hope he wins the Oscar as well.”
The buzz is that the ambitious ‘Broken Horses’ belongs to the gangster genre with a screenplay based on an original story by Chopra, Abhijat Joshi of ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’, ‘Eklavya’ and ’64 Squares’ fame and script consultant Jason Richman (‘Bangkok Dangerous’, ‘Swing Vote’) works on the script too.
Mark Johnson (of ‘Chronicles of Narnia’, ‘The Notebook’ and ‘Rain Man’ fame) is the executive producer of the film, and Chris Buchinsky (‘Hancock’, ‘Spiderman 2’) is the story board artist. The film will be to be shot across New Mexico, New York and Albuquerque.
Well, Mr. Chopra truly goes international this time around.
