Vineet Kumar Singh – I was being Type Cast

Published on

Vineet Kumar Singh was spotted at a press conference for his upcoming movie, Mukkabaaz. During media interaction, the actor, Vineet talked about being typecast, his real reason to turn into script-writer.

“I am an actor and I want to work as an actor or more like, I wanted to, but I was getting typecast roles after Gangs Of Wasseypur and Bombay Talkies, so I had to ask myself, did I really came into acting after completing my medicine studies? So I was always uneasy, so I kept giving auditions and kept meeting everyone, and finally, this happened, and now I am thinking, this is also good” added Vineet.

Vineet Kumar wrote the script for Mukkabaaz and expressed that he was very clear that he will act in the movie too.
“I was very clear on that, wherever I took the script, I was clear and upfront that if they are making this film, I would like to do the main role. That was the only condition I had, apart from that I didn’t have any questions, nor I wanted anything else. I was very clear from the beginning about this effort I made” added Vineet.

Vineet Kumar also talked about why he went to Anurag Kashyap after taking his story to all the other production houses.

“Anurag Kashyap told me during the premiere of Ugly that Vineet I won’t be making anything with you in future, we’ve done three films together and now you can leave. So I couldn’t gather up enough courage to approach Anurag for this film, so I tried everywhere else. The reason I approached Anurag that I wanted his feedback, but once he read the script and called me, I’d that has been the most important call in my life, so far, he told me that I am directing and you’re starring in the film” added Vineet.

Working with Anurag Kashyap came with conditions, which Vineet Kumar expressed that he readily agreed.
“Anurag had two conditions, first I had to transform into a boxer, and he would change the script according to his need, so I was quite happy that Anurag took on the responsibility of writing it” added Vineet.

Vineet went under rigorous training to transform into a boxer, who is professionally trained and express that boxing is a really tough sport.
“Training was really tough. I’d never even touched a boxing glove in my life before. I have been a player in my life but never boxing. But I was confident that I will be able to get out of internal boxing which most actors face. So I just went ahead with the flow. In the beginning, I thought I will able to do it, but it was really tough. Boxing is not easy. It is a difficult sport, I just followed my coach’s direction. In the beginning, I was just taking punches but with time I was able to throw some myself” added Vineet.

Mukkabaaz is an upcoming sports drama film co-written, co-produced and directed by Anurag Kashyap. The film is jointly produced by Anand L. Rai and Phantom Films, the film stars Vineet Kumar Singh, Zoya Hussain, Ravi Kishan and Jimmy Shergill.

It was screened in the Special Presentations section at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival and the 2017 Mumbai Film Festival.
Mukkabaaz is scheduled to release theatrically on 12 January 2018.
