Akshay Kumar who is busy promoting his upcoming release Pad Man was present on the Set of Grand Finale of Zee Marathi’s Show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ on Sunday. During media interaction, Akshay said, he believes if women are strong, our country is strong.
Akshay Kumar after his previous film ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha‘ petitioned the government to make the film tax-free and appealed to provide essential arrangements in rural India.
When asked if he will also appeal the government to make sanitary napkins tax free, he said, “I am sure government is doing what needs to be done. But I consider that in Rural areas of our country, where the 90 percent women don’t have access should be provided with Sanitary pads not tax-free but free of cost. Because I believe if women our are strong, our country is strong.”
‘Pad Man’ is based on Arunachalam Muruganantha’s struggle and success to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene and create affordable menstrual hygiene products.
When asked if co-star Sonam believes in the same, Sonam said, “Honestly, nothing is free of cost nowadays but I don’t think it should be taxed. It should be tax-free for sure and cheaper. I think homegrown products (Made in India) should not be taxed so highly.”
‘Padman’ directed by R. Balki is scheduled to release on 26th Jan.
