Re-budget your household budget

Published on

Budget 2009 tells us what we can’t afford; but that doesn’t keep us away from buying it. Though, luxurious items have become comparatively cheaper, the price hike of petrol and diesel is hard to swallow. Let’s hear it from our well-to-do television celebrities what they think of the Union Budget 2009-10.

Ashita Dhawan, TV actress

I am not happy with the budget. They should not have raised the fuel price. If petrol price will rise then the commodities that come to us through transport will have to bear the brunt; and in turn we have to bear its cost. Just before the elections government had lowered the price and now; after coming to the power it’s again the same.

Sarwar Ahuja, TV actor

I am happy that computer, mobile and television-set rates have gone down. Technology has become accessible to all the strata of society. But, increase in fuel price will increase the cost of everything because transportation will be expensive. Recently, when petrol and diesel prices came down it was a relief, as it not only reduces the cost of personal petrol usage but also the transportation cost. This rise will ultimately raise the cost of living. Over all it’s a balanced budget.

Ashlesha Sawant, TV actress

My mother keeps investing in gold so that’s not quite good news for her. In today’s scenario if we see, majority is capable of buying a car but cannot afford to fill-in the fuel regularly. Because vehicles are getting cheaper and fuel prices are hitting the rooftop. Over all budgets will not make a huge difference in common man’s life.

Increasing the price of luxurious stuff is fine; you can pay extra for it, but basic commodities should have been spared. Petrol and diesel; are the commodity that directly-indirectly affect the masses. I am happy that computer, mobile and TV-set prices have fallen, it is a very good thing that technology will reach out to everyone.

Anu Menon aka Lola Kutty

All I know is that, it is more or less the same as last time’s budget. Keeping in mind the recessionary market, people expected a lot more from the budget. As far as household budget is concerned, it depends on an individual and how much they want to spend on what. If I go out to eat twice a week; I will go once. As far as petrol and diesel prices are concerned; government always does this, because they know we cannot do without it.

Ajay Chaudhary, TV actor

I got to know from people that the budget is oriented towards rural population. I bet; if you go to these places next year, you will see no progress. God only knows where all the money goes. Recently I was in the US; there the rates of diesel and petrol were so less, I felt like settling there. Fuel is still cheap in the international market, but in India it is still priced high.
