Mumbai 15th June, 2009: Weirdass Productions, the production house of renowned stand-up comedian Vir Das, is organizing India’s first ever Ham-ateur Nights. The basic aim of these Ham-ateur Nights is to give an ideal platform for upcoming talents in the field of comedy right from stand up to sketch comedy, from musical to slap stick comedy.
The first ever Ham-ateur Night will take place in Blue Frog, Mumbai on Sunday, June 21, 2009 and Vir Das aims to have his Ham-ateur Nights on the 3rd Sunday of every month henceforth. “India has a huge pool of talent as far stand-up comedy is concerned and I hope to be able to discover and nurture these gifted individuals, by giving them a launch pad†says Vir Das.
The first ever Ham-ateur Night will be attended by various celebrities who are friends and colleagues of Vir. Ten performances will take place at every Ham-ateur Nights and a winner will be announced each night. All these nights will end at a perfect note with Vir himself doing the closing performance.
The nights will not just be in Mumbai as Vir Das plans to go national, organizing these Ham-ateur Nights across the country, to New Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore.
