Demi Lovato sued for copyright infringement

Published on

Singer Demi Lovato, UMG Recording and her producers Carl Falk and Rami Yacoub have been sued for copyright infringement over her track “Stars”.

The 24-year-old and her team have been hit with a lawsuit by alt-pop duo Sleigh Bells, who claim that her track “Stars” contains similarities that transcend the realm of coincidence with their song “Infinity Guitars & Riot Rhythm”, reports etonline.com.

“A comparison of the two songs reveals that, at the very least, the combination of the hand claps and bass drum, structured as three-quarter beats and a rest, with the bass drum providing a counter-rhythm to the hand claps, is at least substantially similar in both works,” the lawsuit read.

The producers responded in a statement, saying: “We did not use any samples in Demi Lovato’s song ‘Stars’. Demi was also not involved with the production. She only wrote top line.”

The band previously addressed their concerns in a tweet, saying: “Demi Lovato flattered you guys sampled ‘Infinity Guitars & Riot Rhythm’ for ‘Stars’ but we were not contacted. Gotta clear those.”
