‘Logan’ stars bowled over by 11-year-old Dafne Keen’s acting

Hollywood stars Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart have all good things to say about their 11-year-old costar Dafne Keen, who plays Laura in the American superhero film “Logan”. For them, she is an incredible actress with a very focused, intense, serious and committed attitude towards work — something that all actors can learn from her.

At a press briefing for select media, this IANS representative asked the actors about their experience of working with Keen who has made her feature debut with the film.

Jackman took on the question first, and said: “She is an amazing actress. You can take away that 11-year-old bit and can say she is an incredible actress. The fact that she is 11, brings her near to miraculous.

“I mean anyone who knows anything about acting, knows that to have a part with barely any dialogue is a very steep climb for anyone. And she has done that bit brilliantly. From becoming this killing machine to watching her open up to love, light, relationship, is astonishing.”

“She has been different in every take. She is very focused… She is astonishing and I think she has a long career. For us, she is great child,” added Jackman.

Patrick too had good things to say about her.

“I realised that I never heard her speak as X 23 (her character). She didn’t say anything till the time my role was part of the film. I feel when the camera stopped rolling, she was intelligent, delightful but the moment assistant directors say stand by everybody, she was a different person — very focused, intense, serious and utterly committed – a lesson for all the actors to learn,” Stewart told IANS.

“She is a child who performs with a weight and seriousness and intensity and diversity of a very experienced and worldly actress,” he added.

“Logan” is a superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Wolverine. The film, distributed by 20th Century Fox, is the tenth instalment in the X-Men film series, as well as the third and final Wolverine film following “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and “The Wolverine”

The film sees Academy Award nominated Jackman reprising his iconic role as The Wolverine for one final time. Apart from Stewart, the James Mangold directorial also stars Stephen Merchant and Richard E Grant.

The film is going to release worldwide, including in India, on March 3.
