‘The Cape’ Review: Lacks That Killer Punch

Published on

January 11, 2011 : NBC has come out with its new series ‘The Cape’ perhaps seeking an answer to its earlier superhero series ‘Heroes’. However, ‘The Cape’ despite being watchable is not good enough to be compared with its predecessor.

The comic lovers, though, may find ‘The Cape’ pretty absorbing since it is quite similar to Batman with the protagonist bloke as an intellectual guy who relies on training and grey cells.

The opening episode is much better as it moves at a breakneck speed and keeps the viewers at the edge of their seats at most times. However, the second episode literally drags and is a major let down, as reported by some of the fans.

Actor David Lyons portrays the lead character of Vince Faraday or ‘The Cape’ and he does a commendable job. But perhaps the character reminds more of Batman than establishing its own independent identity. Nevertheless there are some spectacular moments like the one when ‘The Cape’ stares at his nemesis and then wraps the cape and vanishes.

But the characters of Chess and Orwell are nothing short of brilliance deftly played by skilled actors James Frain and Summer Glau respectively. The character of Max Malini (Keith David) ushers in a few humorous moments.

Overall, the series is promising but does not deserve the hoopla and hype that it had spawned across the internet. But let’s keep our fingers crossed for better episodes!
