When Rohit Shetty and Karan Johar will remake Ram Lakhan, it will be really good film says Subhash Ghai

Filmmaker Subhash Ghai who has directed ‘Ram Lakhan’ has said that whenever Rohit Shetty and Karan Johar will remake ‘Ram Lakhan’, it will be really good film.

Subhash Ghai was interacting with media at re-premiere of ‘Ram Lakhan’ at New Excelsior Mukta A2 Cinemas on Sunday in Mumbai.

There were media reports that Rohit Shetty is keen to recreate ‘Ram Lakhan’ which will be produced by Karan Johar, so when asked Ghai who is director if the original one that whether they will be able to do justice with the film, Ghai said, “I think it’s a huge responsibility to remake any popular film. Similarly, when a filmmaker will attempt to make remake of film like ‘Ram Lakhan’ then there will be automatic responsibility on him to make better film than ‘Ram Lakhan’. Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty are considered as responsible and good directors. They are taking their time to remake it so, I am happy about that and I also know that whenever they will recreate ‘Ram Lakhan’, it will be really good film.”

Talking about casting of Rohit Shetty’s ‘Ram Lakhan’, Ghai said, “I think if Rohit Shetty will recreate ‘Ram Lakhan’ by taking newcomer in it then also it will work because when I started ‘Ram Lakhan’, that time both stars (Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff) last five films haven’t worked and practically, other people were rejecting them but I took them in the film because in this film’s characters are stronger than the stars”

Talking about existence of insecurity in younger generation of actors, Ghai said, “There is lot of competition therefore, there is insecurity in young stars. Earlier actor used to take decision on their own but now things are driven by marketing team, media and box-office collections. Earlier, there wasn’t much pressure on actors and filmmakers but nowadays, people are living under pressure in every minute of their life. I think it is unavoidable in today’s times therefore, I can understand their problems”

When asked which actor can pull of role of Ram and Lakhan in the remake, Ghai said, “There are many brilliant actors. Ranbir Kapoor and Varun Dhawan are great actors so I think now, there is good bunch of actors who can carry a role on their shoulder in recreated version of ‘Ram Lakhan’”

When asked Ghai whether Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shorff was his first choice in terms of casting of lead actors for ‘Ram Lakhan, he said, ‘Yes. Both of them were my very first choice because I stared this film quickly in 15 days so during that period, I decided to cast my two favorite actors Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor”

Talking about younger actor’s preference for negative role to garner popularity, Ghai said, “Nowadays, actors prefer naughty and negative role. They think positive characters will not garner that kind of popularity but I think in ‘Ram Lakhan’ Lakhan’s character brought entertainment in the film but Ram’s characters brought respectability to the film.”

Ram Lakhan (1989) was produced and directed by Subhash Ghai and had an ensemble cast, including Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Madhuri Dixit, Dimple Kapadia, Raakhee and Anupam Kher.
