January 3, 2011 : Gulliver’s Travels, the Twentieth Century Fox’s most talked about releases in the New Year has set off with bang in the opening weekend collections on foreign shores.
Despite not being able to match the New Year opening weekend collections of $136.8 million of last year’s Twentieth Century Fox’s science- fiction flick Avatar,Gulliver’s Travels has managed to create a record of sorts by grossing in the highest at the box office.
The Hollywood flick had taken the No.1 spot after edging past the other popular choice flick Little Fockers, making it slip to the no.3 spot.
Gulliver’s Travels has managed to sweep up a collection of $24 million from a total of 33 territories and 4,495 venues all over on foreign shores. The biggest markets being the UK and India, the movie has been released at almost every other territory albeit smaller than the big two overseas markets.
However, the biggest contributor for the weekend collections for the movie has been the UK. It managed to generate astounding figures like $10.9million inclusive of all preview shows from the total of 505 locations.
Thus making it a potential threat to the other releases as this popular movie based on a classic novel grossed $47 million within just 10 days of its release abroad.
The flick is however all set to cross new boundaries with openings in territories like Russia and other eastern regions.
Little Fockers, the popular Paramount release was placed at the number three spot as it reportedly collected a $22.5million from a total of 4,683 locations. The collections from foreign shores were reportedly $175.2 million.
The second spot was taken by Tron: Legacy. This flick which is a 3D sequel to the 1982 flick Tron,Legacy managed to rake in $23.7 million from 40 territories and 5,929locations.
