December 11, 2010 : The billionaire talk show host Oprah Winfrey is going back to big screen after more than a decade. Oprah was first seen in the 1985 movie ‘The Colour Purple’ playing a distraught housewife Sofia. She got nominated for Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for this role. In 1998, Oprah was again seen in the movie Beloved, which was also produced by her.
Following these performances, Oprah again got busy with her chat show ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ and other ventures. Later, she lent her voice for 2006 film ‘Charlotte’s Web’, 2007 film ‘Bee Movie’ and the 2010 film ‘The Princess and the Frog’. However, she was never seen in front of the camera for any movie after 1998.
Now, the latest reports suggest that the 56-year-old lady is back to acting with the film Ruined, which is based on Lynn Nottage’s Pulitzer prize-winning book of the same title. Oprah will essay the role of a brothel madam in the film. Her character Mama Nadi is a woman in Congo, who runs a brothel. The film tells the story of trials of women in the Democratic Republic of Congo at the time of country’s civil war era.
We hope to explore another side of this billionaire woman with this film!
