Makarand Deshpande to return to Delhi stage after 12 years

Theatre veteran Makarand Deshpande will bring his classic Hindi play “Sir Sir Sarla” here on Sunday. It is special for him as he is returning to the capital’s stage after a dozen years.

The play, directed by and starring Deshpande, also features Sanjay Dhadhich, Aahana Kumra and Faisal Rasheed in lead roles. It talks about love as the only subject that has no curriculum.

Deshpande said in a statement: “‘Sir Sir Sarla’ is a play which is very close to my heart. It’s been over a decade and a half that I have been performing this play and I am glad that after so many years, we’re getting a chance to perform in front of audiences across the country as part of the Zee Theatre Tour.

“It’s a play that the audience will relate with, especially my character, who faces constant internal conflicts with his prudish self, like many of us. I hope people in Delhi like the play.”

The play will be staged at Kamani Auditorium, and it’s part of Zee Theatre’s initiative to promote theatre culture.

Anuj Talukder, President, Zee Live, said: “Having launched the Zee Theatre Tour in January, our focus remains to strengthen the theatre ecosystem by creating unforgettable experiences. We look forward to being in Delhi.”
