Sharing of taxes by central government is discriminatory: Kamal Haasan

Published on

Tamil and Hindi movie actor Kamal Haasan has said he feels that the sharing of taxes by the central government is discriminatory and if all the southern states celebrate Dravidianism then the discrimination may not be there.

In his weekly column in Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan, the actor said Maharashtra ranks at the top in contributing tax revenue and is followed by Tamil Nadu.

He said there is a complaint that the central government collects taxes from these states and shares more with other states.

“It will be like that in a joint family. The earnings of the elder brother will be shared with his unemployed brothers. But one should not think that the earning elder brother is a fool. He should not be starved of food,” Haasan said.

Haasan said he feels that the sharing of the taxes amongst the states by the central government is not in the right proportion.

He said if Dravidianism is celebrated across the southern states, then this partiality in sharing of taxes will not happen and one can be united in talking to the central government.

The actor said the language and the love for language, self respect should continue as it is now and they should not be changed.

Haasan who had announced his political plunge sometime back, also said he would start his state tour from Ramanathapuram district — around 510 km from here — on February 21. He will also announce the name of his political party.

Haasan said he would start his tour from former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s residence in Rameswaram in Ramanathapuram district.
